Since Honda has been around for so long (like 100 years and counting) we thought today we would take a look at the engines that run those fine machines.  Actually, Honda began as an engine manufacturer and eventually became a carmaker, so these fine folks understand what the internal combustion engine is all about.

Today we will look at the Honda B-Series engines, which are four-cylinder inline DOHC engines.  They were made in 1.6-liter, 1.7-liter, 1.8-liter, and 2.0-liter sizes.  Some had variable valve timing and electronic control, and some did not.  They produce between 150-200 horsepower.

The entire B-Series engine has only two short blocks to choose from, and the only difference between them is their deck height.

The first generation of this venerable engine, the B16A SIR1 can be found in the following cars:

  • 1989-1993 Honda Integra XSi
  • 1989-1991 Honda CR-X SIR
  • 1989-1991 Honda Civic SiR

The second generation, the JDM B16A SIR can be found in:

  • 1992-1993 Honda Integra XSi
  • 1991-1994 Honda Civic
  • 1991-1993 Honda Civic Ferio
  • 1992-1995 Honda CR-X del Sol
  • 1996-1998 Honda Civic
  • 1995-1998 Honda Civic Ferio

Variations continued after that; the third generation was the B16B Type R, and so on.  Variations continued depending on the cars designed over the years, and the B-Series was replaced by the K-Series for Civic and Integra by 2000.
