If you own a fairly new Mazda, Honda, or Nissan, chances are you will be receiving a recall notice in the mail soon. Especially if you live in one of the Southern states in the United States.
Honda, Nissan and Mazda recently announced a recall for approximately 2.8 million vehicles because of a problem in the airbags made by Takata Corporation. This recall is on the heels of a 2013 recall that affected over six million vehicles worldwide for the same issue.
Almost all of the three million vehicles affected are in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Loouisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Why those locations?
The airbags in question are affected by humidity, and it is possible that the front airbag inflators will deploy with too much pressure, which may cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury. Takata has been working with the National Highway Transit Safety Agency on the investigation.
The years affected seem to be for vehicles made from 2001 through 2004 at this point.
If you own one of those vehicles, you will be hearing from the car manufacturer, and if you don’t hear from them, contact your local dealership to find out more. This is a simple fix that requires taking your car to the dealership and having them fix the problem quickly.
