Even though Subaru is a Japanese company and has been since 1915, the Subaru Outback has always seemed like an American car. Perhaps that is because it was designed for the North American market specifically, and has been such a staple of our automotive landscape for four generations now.
When the Outback was first introduced way back when, it was pretty much the only car of its type on the market, a unique blend of wagon and SUV with all-wheel drive and great dependability in any conditions. Once the rest of the car world caught up and designed their own all-purpose wagon/SUV, then the Outback kind of lost their grip on that genre of vehicle.
The fourth generation, however, gets back to what it does the best, namely give families a safe drive in any conditions. The 2013 Outback is closer to an SUV than to a wagon, and it is as dependable as the day is long. It will seat five comfortably, is quite tall with great head room, and it comes in enough trims to satisfy any customer. They have it in the 2.5i, the 2.5i Premium, the 2.5i Limited, the 3.6R, the 3.6R Premium, and the 3.6R Limited, all different because of the powertrain offered.
The base Outback, the 2.5i, has a four-cylinder boxer engine with 170 horsepower; the 3.6-liter is a six-cylinder with 256 horsepower. They all come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard but you can have the optional CVT (continual variable transmission).
The 2013 Subaru Outback is loaded with accessories. All Outbacks have root rails, a standard forever on Outbacks, as well as cruise control, tilt-steering, CD stereo, alloy wheels, foglights and dual-zone auto seat warmers.
