The new Audi A6 is ready to take the Mercedes-Benz E-class and BMW 5-series head on with a swarm of potent engines, equipment features and plush interior.
Contrasting nearly all of the latest models, the A6 has barely grown larger than its forerunner. In fact, the dimensions of the new Audi A6 are practically the same as departing car. The wheelbase has been extended three inches, but its general distance from end-to-end has been enlarged merely two or so inches to 193.7. Although the A6 is three inches narrower inside, there’s an inch more shoulder room in the front and back-seat passengers get an extra quarter-inch for their shoulders. It’s also half-an-inch taller.
The new Audi A6 also has increased engine power. While Europeans can select from three gasoline and two diesel power plants, the North American market will probably see just the leading pair of spark-ignited engines. Fortunately, the 3.2-liter V6 delivers 225 horsepower – 35 more than the previous 3.0-liter and five more than the 2.7-liter turbo engine. The 4.2-liter V8 comes directly from the S4, with 335 horsepower available. Optional transmissions are a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic or the constantly changeable “Multitronic.” The base Quattro comes with the 4.2-liter V8 with an optional V6.
There are more features on the new Audi A6 as well. It’s full of handy options. Debuting for Audi is an adjustable headlight system that follows the path of the road. An air suspension is also an option. Inside, the A6 follows the example set by the class-leading A8’s cabin. The new Audi steering wheel has a center hub that imitates the latest front grill design. While the center console is enhanced by the MMI control interface from the A8 with a 6.5-inch monochromatic screen, a seven-inch color display with DVD routing is optional. Automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and automatic climate control are all standard. Also offered are radar-based adaptive cruise control and keyless entry.
