The midsize family sedan segment is highly competitive. The Ford Fusion, the Honda Accord, the Mazda 6, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry is like a who’s who of heavy hitters in the car business. They are all excellent choices and all deserve consideration by car-buyers.
So why, then, should someone consider the Subaru Legacy?
It begins with Subaru’s almost legendary all-wheel capabilities. If you live in a wet climate or a snowy climate, there is no better sedan for your family than the Subaru Legacy. But what about those folks who live in a dry climate? Why bother with the Legacy when the Camry, Accord or Altima are less-expensive and equally impressive?
That was the question the folks at Subaru tackled in making the 2015 Subaru Legacy, and what they came up with were extra passenger and cargo space, more fuel efficient engines, upgraded interior materials and subtle exterior upgrades.
The Subaru Legacy, a five-passenger sedan, comes in four trims, the 2.5i, the 2.5i Premium, the 2.5i Limited and the 3.6 R. The number designations refer to the engine sizes. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder has 175 horsepower, can go from 0-60 in 9.4 seconds, and has an EPA rating of 30 mpg. The 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine powers with 256 horsepower, is paired, like the four-cylinder, with a CVT, and has an EPA rating of 23 mpg.
Standard features include 17-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, air-conditioning, cruise control, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, full power accessories, a 60/40 split folding rear seat and a rearview camera. Options increase with each trim above the standard.
Safety is assured with stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, a rearview camera, and airbags throughout. In braking testing, the Legacy stopped from 60-0 in 114 feet, a better-than-average score, and it earned the five-star rating from government crash testing.
Anyway you look at it, the Subaru Legacy is an improved family sedan with better gas mileage and upgraded features….and don’t forget about that all-wheel drive on every single vehicle made by Subaru. There is no better sedan on the market when it comes to all-wheel drive.
