Crossover SUVs: There are a few of them out there, aren’t there? Luxury crossovers: not as many but still, a sizeable number to choose from. Affordable luxury SUVs? Now we’ve narrowed the list down to very few, and probably at the top of that list is the 2015 Acura MDX.
Although the number of luxury SUVs is relatively small, it is still an impressive list. You can choose the Infiniti QX60. You can choose the Lincoln MKT.  Both are impressive but neither is as fun to drive as the Acura MDX. You can also choose the BMW X5, considerably more expensive than the Acura MDX but definitely a better performing vehicle, and you can look at the Buick Enclave, decidedly bigger than the MDX.
But if what you are looking for is quality at a value with some excellent performance as the cherry on top, then the Acura is a must for a test-drive at the very least.
The Acura MDX is a midsize SUV that seats seven. It is only offered in one trim, but considering the features offered, one trim is more than enough. Those features include 18-inch wheels, automatic LED headlights, heated mirrors, a power liftgate, a sunroof, rear privacy glass, keyless ignition and entry, driver memory settings, leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control and more and more and more.
The MDX is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine good for 290 horsepower and it is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as standard. All-wheel drive is optional. The MDX was tested from 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, slightly faster than the competition, and its fuel economy is rated at 23 mpg combined with a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
Safety features include antilock disc brakes, front seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag, active head restraints, traction control and stability control. In braking tests, the MDX braked from 60-0 in 125 feet, not quite as good as the competition. And in government crash testing the MDX earned the top five-star rating.
A great safety rating…..great value….one of the top performers….great handling…luxury at a value….is it any wonder that the Acura MDX always rates near the top of the luxury MDX class?
