Saab, the Swedish auto manufacturer sold by General Motors to Spyker Cars in late February, has completely redesigned its 9-5 Aero. The all-new, larger Aero will cost $49,990 – $7,790 more than the 2009 model – when it arrives at dealerships in July.
The 2010 Saab 9-5 Aero will have plenty of added contents and a greatly increased echelon of elegance. Refinements include a six-speed automatic transmission on the 2010 model as opposed to a six-speed manual on the 2009 model, 18-inch wheels versus 17-inch wheels, XWD versus front-wheel drive, the addition of head curtain side airbags. The 2010 model also comes standard with an audio system with complete USB incorporation and nine speakers versus no USB and seven speakers.
The new 9-5 Aero is powered by a 2.8-liter V6 turbocharged engine that delivers 300 horsepower with a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifting.
Special options on the 2010 Saab 9-5 Aero include a head-up display and a lane-departure warning system.
Soon after the 2010 9-5 Aero is presented, a 2.0-liter turbo alternative will be added to the 9-5 lineup. The Saab 2011 model-year vehicles will start at less than $40,000 MSRP.
Spyker declared that Saab will be a separate functioning car manufacturer with three or four model lines. They include the 9-3 sedan, a hatchback, a sport wagon, an X and convertible models and the 9-5 sedan, sport wagon and X models. The 9-4X also appears in the product portfolio. Spyker said the 9-3, 9-5 and 9-4X are bound for United States and European markets.
Spyker also said that Saab’s product portfolio will be totally transformed, starting with the 9-5 launch in July, the 9-4X in early 2011 and the new 9-3 in 2012.
Although Spyker Cars has changed its name to Saab Spyker Automobiles, the corporation is running Spyker and Saab as a pair of detached working companies, each of which is intent on targeting their distinct markets with their individual vehicle lines.
