Is the 2015 Volvo S80 for you?
So, you decide it’s time to buy a midsize luxury sedan. You want decent gas mileage. You want great ride quality. You want a decent price and above all, you want safety.
In other words, you want the 2015 Volvo S80.
There are more exquisite midsize luxury sedans to be sure. Any of the German competitors like the Audi A6, the BMW 5 or the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, will cost more but are very impressive cars. There are even a couple, like the Acura TLX and the Hyundai Genesis, that offer more styling and better design. But none offers the safety guarantees, mid-range pricing and silent ride of the Volvo S80.
The 2015 Volvo S80 is the second generation of this style and it comes in two models, the T5 Drive-E and the T6. Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, heated mirrors, foglights, keyless ignition and entry, a split-folding rear seat with trunk pass-through, cruise control, air conditioning and really a bevy of other features too numerous to mention. You can move up to the T6 and also get rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a folding front passenger seat and 12-speaker surround-sound audio system.
There are two engines available. The T5 Drive-E trim has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for 240 horsepower. The T6 model has a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine that gives you 300 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission comes with the former and boasts an EPA rating of 29 mpg combined, a great score for this class of car. The T6 comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, can accelerate from 0-60 in six seconds and an EPA rating of 22 mpg.
Volvo is all about safety. They have built their reputation on safety, and the 2015 Volvo S80 is no slouch in that area. It comes with antilock brakes, side curtain airbags, a low-speed fronal collision mitigation system, active front head restraints and front side airbags. Optional are the rearview camera, the parking sensors, the blind-spot monitoring system and the lane-departure warning system. Volvo is safe….safe is Volvo!
So there’s the bottom line. If you are into safety, riding comfort and great gas mileage, the 2015 Volvo S80 is the car for you. If you are after prestige and German engineering then look elsewhere. If you choose the Volvo for your next midsize luxury sedan, then remember that Volvo replacement parts are readily available across America wherever quality auto parts are sold, but also remember for the greatest savings, shop for Volvo used parts at a local salvage yard like All Import Auto Parts.
