You have several options if you are looking to purchase used BMW parts, or for that matter used Toyota parts of any other brand of used auto parts.

Basically your options include the following:

  • Purchase online from a site like Craigslist or ebay
  • Buy a used car, same make and model, and pull parts as you need them
  • Or purchase used car parts from salvage yards like All Import Auto Parts

Let’s look at each of these options, with an eye towards the positives, and negatives, of each option.

We are All Import Auto Parts, serving the Greater Fort Worth area for three decades. Call us if we can be of assistance.

Purchase used car parts online

The good news, with this option, is the internet gives you access to used car parts and truck parts from across the country.  No matter what part you are trying to obtain, chances are good that you will be able to find it online using sites like Craigslist.  That’s the good news!

The bad news is you really have no idea how reputable the seller of those parts is.  Bob in Toledo is selling a fuel pump for your BMW, but who the heck is Bob? Is the fuel pump even working? How reliable is Bob? Can he be trusted?  And what are you going to pay for shipping of that fuel pump?

To our way of thinking, the risks involved with this approach far-outweigh the benefits.

Parting out a used car or truck

This is a convenient approach if you can afford it.  First, you have to find a wrecked make and model which matches your current BMW. Then you have to have the money to pay for it. So, using the fuel pump example, you would be paying a few thousand dollars for the wrecked vehicle.  You would then need to store that vehicle somewhere – all for a fuel pump!  True, you also have the other parts available, should you need them, but that seems, to us, to be a major financial risk to take.

Purchase parts from a salvage yard

With this option, you call your local salvage yard, or you do an online search of their inventory, and your order the part.  The part is then available for you at the salvage yard, or they do an online search of other wrecking yards across the country, and they have that part shipped to you.  If it is a trusted and reputable salvage yard, you can rest assured that they will be delivering, to you, a used fuel pump which is reliable, at a competitive cost.  You are purchasing a part which has a warranty, you are paying a fair price for it, and you don’t have to store a wrecked vehicle on your property.
